The D2 TechnesizerInteractive Sound Randomizer
User Guide
The D2 Technesizer is an interactive sound randomizer built on D2 audio
technology β every sound is born as a compact peak-and-timing description and rebuilt right
in your browser with Cubic BΓ©zier curves. No samples, no presets: every click creates a
sound that has never existed before.
Quick start
- Pick a waveform β or leave it on hybrid for the most variety.
- Press π² Randomize β a new sound appears in the display as its actual waveform.
- Press π to hear it again, as many times as you like.
- Like it? Press the loop button β³ β the speaker inside the
circle of arrows β to hear the sound as a seamless, endless loop.
- Not feeling it? Randomize again. Repeat until something grabs you.
Choosing a waveform
- sine β the purest tone: smooth, round, flute-like.
- tri β triangle: mellow with a gentle edge, like a soft organ.
- square β hollow and reedy; classic chip-tune character.
- saw β sawtooth: bright, buzzy, brassy β cuts through a mix.
- hybrid β the wildcard: 2β4 classic waves blended into one smooth complex tone
at a single shared pitch. You set the recipe on the four blend faders below the
selector β the most surprising sounds live here.
The blend mixer
When hybrid is selected, four vertical faders β sine Β· tri Β· square Β· saw β
set how much of each wave goes into the sound. Set them to a blend you like, then press
π² Randomize: every click creates a new sound from that same mix β
the pitch, level and octave doublings re-roll, but the proportions stay exactly where you put them.
Change the faders and you change what gets randomized. A fader at zero means that wave sits out,
and sliding all four to zero hands the recipe back to the dice β a different surprise blend every roll.
The mixer only applies to hybrid β pinning a classic wave dims it.
Every roll also picks a random pitch (55β880 Hz) and level, so two rolls of the same
waveform never sound identical.
The controls
- π² Randomize β creates a brand-new sound and shows its waveform.
- π β plays the current sound once more, exactly as generated.
- β³ loop β "I like this one": finds the cleanest place to start
and end the sound so it repeats seamlessly, then plays it continuously. The arrow ring spins
while looping and the button turns green β a β¬ download button appears
beside it: click it to save the looping sample as a studio-quality WAV (32-bit float),
named by the sound's seed, ready to drop into your DAW. Press β³ again to stop.
Randomize and π also stop the loop.
How the loop button works
When you press it, the Technesizer scans the beginning and end of the sound for the ideal
place to cut: two matching peaks β the natural turning points of the waveform β with the
same direction, size and position in the wave cycle. Both cut points sit where the waveform's
slope is zero and their heights match, so the end flows back into the start with no click or
bump: the loop is truly seamless. While it plays, the display switches to show exactly the
section that is looping.
The readout tells you what it found, e.g.
loop 0.99 s Β· peaks 3β1618 Β· join Ξ0.0% Β· seed 4123456789 β
that's the loop length, which waveform peaks were joined, and the join error
(Ξ0.0% means sample-perfect).
Morph β evolve one sound into another
This is where D2 gets interesting. A D2 sound isn't audio β it's a recipe: peak heights, the timing between peaks, and a shape number per segment. Morphing blends the recipe segment by segment, so the waveform itself continuously transforms from one sound into the other. It's not a crossfade: at every moment you're hearing one new sound that genuinely sits between A and B β pitch, brightness and character all glide.
- Get two sounds into the slots: π pin keeps the sound currently in the display, π² roll deals a fresh one (honoring your waveform pill and blend faders, so A and B can come from the same recipe).
- Set the duration β how many seconds the AβB evolution takes (2β60 s, default 8).
- βΆ plays the evolution once: A at the start, exactly B at the end.
- β³ loops it β the render travels AβB then back BβA (a full ping-pong takes 2Γ your duration) and wraps seamlessly, so the evolution cycles forever with no click. The button turns violet while it loops; press again to stop.
- β¬ downloads the whole evolution as a 32-bit float WAV named
seedA-seedB-seconds.wav (or β¦-loop.wav for the ping-pong render while looping) β drop it straight into Ableton as-is.
The readout shows progress, e.g. morph 4.2 / 8.0 s Β· A 12345 β B 67890. Both endpoint seeds are in every filename, so a morph you love is always recreatable: same two seeds + same duration = the identical render, every time.
The seed
The seed number in the readout identifies the exact roll. The same seed always
recreates the same sound, so if you roll something you love, note the seed down and it can
always be brought back.
Tips
- Hybrid mode is the best hunting ground for rich, unexpected tones.
- Sculpt a hybrid by ear: nudge one fader between rolls and listen to how the same
recipe keeps its character while the pitch and octaves change around it.
- Pin square or saw for retro game-chip sounds; sine
for sub-bass and pure test tones.
- Classic waveforms almost always loop with join Ξ0.0% β mathematically clean. Hybrids are
more organic, so their join stays tiny but may not be exactly zero.
- Trust your ears, not the waveform β a jagged-looking shape can sound wonderful.

sounds are stored as peak amplitudes plus the timing between peaks, then rebuilt with Cubic
